Performance of gladiolus genotype for central Uttar Pradesh
2013
Singh, Kiran
Present investigations were carried out in 50 selected genotypes of gladiolus for two years during 2010–11 and 2011–12. All the varieties were found to have variations in different traits of vegetative and reproductive nature. In plant growth, height and length and diameter of leaf were found in a considerable variability. Leaf growth also showed variations ranging from 22.8 to 34.4 cm in Happy End to classic variety, respectively. In reproductivity characters, number of flowers appeared on a spike in each genotype was also found variable as per its length varied from 13.0 to 18.9 and 12.8 to 20.5 during 2010–11 and 2011–12, respectively. All these findings showed considerable variation due to genotype and climatic conditions which has a great scope for developing improved new varieties in gladiolus germplasm.
