The Adsorption of Oxygen by Mercerized Cotton
1937
Salley, D.J.
An investigation has been made of the take-up of oxygen by mercerized cotton at liquid air temperatures and in the range from 0° C. to 110° C. A rapid van der Waal's adsorption of the usual type was observed at liquid air temperatures. From 0° C. to 80°C. an adsorption proceeding at a slow rate was found, while at still higher temperatures, oxidation was observed to set in. The effect of the ash content of the material on the adsorption and on the oxidation was also studied.
