The leaf essential oil of Cryptocarya cunninghamii Meissener (Lauraceae)

The leaf oil of Cryptocarya cunninghamii Meissner, obtained in 0.7-1.5% yield, based on fresh leaves, contained either bicyclogermacrene (52.4%) or 6-nonyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one (78-88%) as its major component. Other lactones present in the oil were 6-heptyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one (massoia lactone) (0.1-1.3%) and 6-pentyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one (0.1-0.2%). 2-Phenylethyl benzoate (4-6%) was also present.
