Micronutriments et risque cardiovasculaire | Micronutrients to control cardiovascular risk
2012
Bonnefont-Rousselot, Dominique
Several studies have reported relationships between micronutrient deficiency and the development of cardiovascular (CV) diseases, in which inflammation and oxidative stress are key mechanisms. Clinical trials with complementation in micronutrients such as vitamin E, vitamin C, β-carotene, selenium, resulted in contradictory results. In contrast, in hypertensive patients, complementation with micronutrients (magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, polyphenols) has shown beneficial effects, with an improvement in the endothelial function and a decrease in CV events. This review describes the impact of nutrition on the prevention of CV diseases and on oxidative stress, the influence of micronutrients on hypertension, and presents some examples of clinical trials.
