Blue Grama Response to Zinc Fertilization of Claypan Soil
1986
White, E. M. | Gartner, F. R.
Claypan soils with blue grama [Bouteloua gracilis (H.B.K.) Lagl plants, seeded to indigenous blue grama, or seeded to barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) if salinity might limit blue grama growth were fertilized with Hoagland's formulations in the greenhouse. The objective was to identify the micronutrient(s) that limits blue grama growth in western South Dakota. Growth was increased by the macronutrients N-P-K and further increased if all essential micronutrients were added. Zinc probably is the limiting element, and growth was usually reduced if other micronutrients were added with Zn to the claypan soil.
