Water is a nutrient that has long been overlooked or taken for granted but a daily supply is essential to life. The United States is one of the few countries on Earth where people can assume that the water they drink is safe. In recent years, however, concern has been mounting about the safety of our water supply. While waterborne diseases such as typhoid and cholera are under control, new threats of other microbial pathogens and chemical contamination are now becoming evident.
