Simple rapid determination of thiamin by a HPLC method in foods, body fluids, urine and faeces

An automated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method is reported for the quantification of thiamine in food, feces, whole blood, serum, and urine. The method is based on enzymatic digestion to liberate bound thiamine, conversion of the thiamine to the fluorescent derivative, thiochrome, isobutanol extraction of the thiochrome, and HPLC analysis. Reference thiamine content values are reported for 8 diets, and for feces, urine, whole blood, and serum obtained from healthy volunteers.(wz)
