Warfarin resistance linked to enteral nutrition products
1985
Howard, Patricia A. | Hannaman, Kathryn N.
Seven case reports are discussed with respect to the effects of enteral products on oral anticoagulant therapy in which warfarin was used as the anticoagulant. It is concluded that there have been no extensive clinical studies quantitating the effects of dietary vitamin K on the anticoagulant activity of warfarin, which acts by depressing the hepatic synthesis pf the vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. The vitamin K content of 34 commercial enteral products is documented, ranging from 0-1000 micrograms/kcal. (wz)
