Breast milk in Botswana: Cream and vitamin C contents
1982
Woll, P.J. | Parkin, J.M.
The relationship between maternal nutrition and the cream and vitamin C content of breast milk was evaluated in Botswana and England, using breast milk samples taken at the end of suckling. Mean vitamin C concentration was significantly lower in Botswanan mothers than in British mothers (1.49 and 4.75 mg/dl, respectively), as was the cream content (mean creamatocrit values of 5.32 and 7.93%, respectively). Possible reasons for these differences are discussed. The 2 groups of mothers had similar triceps skinfold thicknesses and mid upper-arm circumferences. (wz)
