Calcium and vitamin D intake of lead-burdened children
1978
Methods and findings are summarized from an evaluation of relationships between estimated dietary intakes of calcium and vitamin D and blood or serum concentrations of lead, calcium, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-OHD). Lead-burdened children were shown to have lower dietary intakes of calcium and vitamin D than did children from the same environment but without seriously elevated blood lead. The data support the concept that relative deficiency of calcium exaggerates lead toxicity.
