Vitamin A for measles
1987
A technical commentary discusses the stand of WHO and UNICEF concerning the importance of the link between measles and a vitamin A deficiency and how countries can reduce the impact of measles by providing vitamin A supplements to young children. It is argued that vitamin A be given orally to children with measles in at-risk settings as soon as measles is diagnosed, and the reduction of morbidity and mortality from measles is biologically feasible when sufficient vitamin A doses are used. Vitamin A deficiency and measles mortality data are discussed.(wz)
