Sports nutrition: Eating to win
1984
Kesten, Deborah
Nutritional and exercise facts and fallacies regarding athletic training are cited and briefly discussed. Carbohydrate loading prior to a sports event is generally recommended under controlled conditions; however, the varied water requirements before, during, and after an event also are pointed out. Specific nutrient requirements for protein, carbohydrates, sodium, and micronutrients, and the appropriateness of particular foods (fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, etc.) are described. The nutrition and physical fitness guidelines of the American Dietetic Association are enumerated. (wz)
