The resistant genotype ICP 8863 of pigeonpea had highest total sugar (130.93 mg) and total phenol content (84.26 mg) as compared to susceptible genotype TTB 7 which had lowest total sugar (84.80 mg) and total phenol content (56.30 mg). With the increase in age of the crop sugar content increased up to the age of 120 days. The leaves contained more sugar and phenols than either roots or stems. The positive association of sugar and phenol contents with resistance may prove useful for identification of resistant genotypes.
