An unusual ellagitannin was isolated from the biologically active polar fraction of Phyllanthus amarus. its structure was established as 1-galloyl-2,4-(acetonyl-dehydrohexahydroxydiphenoyl)-3, 6-hexahydroxydiphenoyl-glucopyranoside by chemical and spectroscopic methods.
