Energy expenditure of children and adolescents is reviewed in this paper, which specifically covers measurement of habitual physical activity and energy expenditure; and levels of physical activity in UK children and teens. The effect of training on aerobic capacity; the relationship between activity patterns and physical fitness; and promoting physically active lifestyles in childhood are discussed.
