Effect of Spacing and Nitrogen on Nutrient Content and Uptake in Leaves of Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. American Beauty

The experiment on effects of spacing and nitrogen on nutrient content and uptake in gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. American Beautywas conducted at during winter season (2014–15) at the Fruit Research Station, Jambuvadi Farm, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The treatments comprised of three levels of spacing (40 x 15 cm, 40 x 20 cm and 40 x 25 cm) and four levels of nitrogen (150, 200, 250 and 300 kg ha⁻¹) in a factorial randomized block design and replicated thrice. The results revealed that N, P and K content and uptake of plant was significantly highest at increased spacing levels and proportion to the supply of nitrogen levels. The maximum nitrogen content in leaves (2.96%) was recorded in spacing 40 x 25 cm and P, K was observed non significant and the maximum N, P and K uptake by plant was recorded in spacing 40 x 15 cm and nitrogen level 250 kg N ha⁻¹.
