Japan enjoys the longest life expectancy in the world and the lowest average body mass index among Asian countries (except North Korea). We Americans, with one-third of our population obese and another one-third overweight, do not enjoy such favorable health statistics. But a lower body mass index among Asians does not guarantee ideal health.
