A perspective on calcium

With a number of commercial food products appearing on the market with calcium fortification, medical researchers are beginning to express concern. More may not be better, particularly for those with an in-born tendency to form calcium-based kidney stones. Recent studies show that supplementation may not be effective in preventing bone loss and osteoporotic conditions. Reasons for this, including the body's ability to adapt to lower levels of calcium, are discussed.(jd-b)
