High Energy Radiation Effects on the Thermal Properties and Density of Nylon 6 Fibers

To study the effects of high energy radiation on the mechanical and thermal prop erties and densities of nylon 6, two different nylons were subjected to gamma and proton irradiation. Progressive irradiation with both types of irradiation at first increased crystalline content, then decreased it. The presence of oxygen during gamma irradiation caused a continuing increase in density with the decrease in the amount of crystalline material.
