Factor analysis of nutritional status data from Ten State Nutrition Surveys
1976
Guthrie, Helen A. | Guthrie, George M.
Extract: This analysis based on data on 28 variables for 6,233 individuals in six age groupings shows that the number of parameters of nutritional status routinely used in nutritional surveillance can be reduced with no reduction in diagnostic potential. Determination of intake of two dietary components (vitamin A and iron), one anthropometric measure (weight), four blood values (hemoglobin and serum iron, folate and albumen), and one urinary component provide as much information as a larger protocol. The savings in time, money, equipment, and personnel that would result from a more limited protocol are evident.
