Maternal--child supplementary feeding programmes in Haiti
1987
Coreil, J.
An evaluation of 39 privately-sponsored Haitian centers providing supplementary feeding programs for mothers and children revealed that, while most programs supported children, only 46% supported pregnant women and only 18% supported lactating women. Over 50% of the centers selected children on the basis of their nutritional status, while 13% provided support on the basis of family income. The results also indicated that the mothers' reasons for enrolling their children was based more on gaining food and other factors than on improving their knowledge of nutrition.(wz)
