Seasonal pattern of shoot growth and canopy development in kiwifruit
1990
A survey of shoot growth was carried out over 3 years. Shoot length was found to range from 170 to 3600 mm, with the highest frequence around 2000-2500 mm. Shoot growth duration varied from 4 to 20 weeks according to the final length. The shortests shoots stopped elongating sooner, whereas the longest ones grew up to the end of September. An estimate of Leaf Area Index (LAI) development is given. The maximum LAI approaches 5 m2/m2 in August. Mean monthly LAI, expressed as the ratio Actual and Maximum LAI, are suggested for the April-October period.
