Effects of equimolar doses of L-methionine, D-methionine and L-methionine-dl-sulfoxide on plasma and urinary amino acid levels in normal adult humans
1986
A study examines the effects of the administration of equimolar amounts of L-methionine, D-methionine, and L-methionine-dl-sulfoxide to fasted normal adults on plasma and urinary levels of amino acids. The results indicate that adults do not utilize D-methionine efficiently as a methionine source; the sulfoxide, however, does appear to be capable of being utilized. The results are consistent with the concept that the L-form of methionine alone appears to serve as the active form of this essential amino acid.(wz)
