Sodium in processed foods
1983
In 1982 the American Medical Association (AMA) held a conference on labeling the sodium content of foods. The conference recommended: 1) supporting a voluntary industry-wide program to identify sodium content on food labels; 2) continuing public education efforts about dietary sources of sodium; 3) encouraging physicians to reinforce AMA's public education program; 4) supporting the food industry's effort to achieve reduced sodium levels in processed foods; and 5) encouraging the food industry to identify potassium content on food labels.
