Evaluation of energy expenditures in burn patients
1986
Extract: Energy expenditures were estimated using standard equations (Curreri, Harris-Benedict, modified Harris-Benedict) and measured by indirect calorimetry in 17 adult patients with burns covering 26 percent to 79 percent of their body surface areas. The Curreri equation predicted significantly greater energy expenditures, while the Harris-Benedict equations predicted significantly lower energy expenditures than were measured by indirect calorimetry. A modified Harris-Benedict equation predicted equivalent energy expenditures to those measured by indirect calorimetry.(author)
