Leaf loss and drying rate of alfalfa as affected by conditioning roll type
1991
Field tests of seven mower-conditioners which utilized four different conditioning roll types were conducted. Resulting leaf loss and drying rate of alfalfa were determined. Average leaf loss for different roll types ranged from 5.2 to 5.9% of total dry matter. Intermeshing rubber rolls had the lowest average leaf loss, although loss was more dependent upon crop maturity or machine adjustment than roll type. Drying rate was not affected by roll type or machine.
