Effects of pH and phosphate on germination of bedding plants
1990
Farthing, J.G. | Ellis, S.R.
Peat based composts were prepared with a range of pH and phosphate levels and in various combinations. Seed of a range of bedding plant species (Impatients, Marigold, Petunia, Primrose, Salvia and Verbena) were sown into trays of the experimental composts. Counts were made of seedling emergence. pH levels below 4.0 greatly inhibited emergence of all species. Good emergence was achieved at levels above 5.0. Within the range tested, phosphate did not influence germination/emergence of any species.
