Feeding practices of American infants and children
1986
A brief overview of US surveys of infant feeding patterns reveals noncompliance with established recommendations for satisfactory or optimal infant nutrition. In view of such observations, it is questioned whether such noncompliance might have an adverse effect on the present or future health and well-being status of US infants. It is pointed out that several major US national food consumption surveys (e.g.: NFCS; NHANES) have not focused on infants, and it is argued that surveys are needed to not only determine the eating patterns of adults, but those of infants as well.(wz)
