Zinc and intestinal absorption of folates

Zinc is closely involved with the metabolism of water-soluble vitamins. Clinical study of 6 young men indicates that the absorption of polyglutamylfolate is reduced in zinc deficiency. Intestinal folate conjugase may be a zinc metalloenzyme. There is a reduction of zinc content in tissues with a deficiency of vitamin B, riboflavin and hepatic folate.
