Heavy pruning effects on flower buds formation of Citrus microcarpa Bunge and Fortunella margarita swing

Three-year-old grafted calamondin (Citrus microcarpa Bunge) potted plants and 10-year-old kumquat (Fortunella margarita) trees were heavy pruning monthly to study their growth and flowering behavior. Heavy pruning kumquat and calamondin could induced vegetative growth of the first flush after pruning, but flowering in following flushes. Flowering pattern of kumquat and calamondin were different. Calamodlin could flowering every flushes excepted the first flush after heavy pruning, while in kumquat, late autumn and spring flushes had no flowers.
