Poverty by administration: a review of supplementary benefits, nutrition and scale rates
1978
Walker, C.L. | Church, M.
The historical background of poverty in Great Britain is reviewed with emphasis put on the part nutrition played in the setting of the scale rates of supplementary benefit. Studies by Roundtree and Beveridge are cited. Charts and tables show suggested subsistence diets, supplementary benefit scales, range of efficiency of food purchase by income group, and energy requirements of children. It is concluded that the present level and calculation of the supplementary benefit scales should be reviewed.
