Urinary and serum flavin levels after a single dose of riboflavin or riboflavin tetrabutyrate in man

Methods and findings are reported from a study of urinary and serum flavin levels in college students after a single dose of either 100 mg. riboflavin (R) or an equivalent amount of riboflavin tetrabutyrate (RT). The half life of RT, a fat-soluble ester of R, was markedly higher than that of R. The results suggest that treatment with RT rather than R may be of clinical advantage in situations where daily supplementation is difficult or tissue stores are rapidly depleted.
