Export barriers and incentives in the eastern hardwood lumber industry
1993
Ifju, P.A. | Bush, R.J.
Data from 354 small hardwood lumber companies were analyzed to determine perceived barriers to exporting and factors that stimulate export activity. Companies were grouped based on their desire to participate in export markets and the ratio of domestic to foreign sales. Nonexporting companies with no interest in becoming exporters perceived themselves as too small to export and were satisfied with the domestic market. Nonexporting companies with a desire to export indicated that a lack of information concerning international markets kept them from exporting. The possibility of increased profit and communication with export distributors/brokers were ranked as the most important factors in stimulating export activity. The chance to travel abroad and communication with chambers of commerce were ranked as the least important factors.
