Birthweights in Katsina, Northern Nigeria
1986
Osuhor, P.C. | Ibrahim, M.
A questionnaire administered to 182 Nigerian mothers delivering single-birth infants assessed differences in birth weight according to sex, parity, father's social class, and dietary practices. The mean birth weight of females and males was 2.980 kg and 3.070 kg, respectively. Birth weight generally increased with increasing parity and decreased with increasing social class. The traditional milk diet appeared to improve birth weight, owing to its high carbohydrate content.(wz)
