Food service employees protected by age discrimination laws
1978
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act protects persons between 40 and 65 years old from age discrimination by employers who are engaged in an industry affecting commerce and employ 25 or more people at least 20 weeks a year. Specific requirements of the law are listed. Supreme Court actions regarding the law and amendments to it are described. The amendments forbid involuntary retirement of employees to be required or permitted as part of any benefit plan. Mandatory retirement for all federal employees is eliminated. Additional changes are listed.
