Analysis of the mitochondrial genome in Arabidopsis has currently yielded information on 46 open reading frames. Numerous sequence duplications of various sizes are found throughout the genome and expand the complexity to about 400 kb. Some genes present in other plant mitochondria are found as interrupted pseudogenes in Arabidopsis. RNA editing changes the encoded information as investigated in several reading frames and deduced for others.
