Outcome of very-low-birthweight babies from Wolverhampton
1984
Lloyd, B.W.
A study of 159 low-birth-weight babies (below 1501 g) born between 1975-79 determined that 57% died during infancy, 6% retained a moderate or major mental or physical handicap, 9% had a minor handicap, and only 26% were normal. Of 51 of these babies who reached school age, 49% were either handicapped or had poor school performances (relative to 13% in a control group of 31 children). (wz)
