A preliminary summary of food assistance programs indicates the number of participants and the number of projects or outlets involved in the Food Stamp Program, the WIC program, the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, and the Child Care Food Program in March, 1977 and February and March, 1978. Federal cost of USDA food programs in the United States and District of Columbia from 1974 to 1978 is reported. Growth and decline of programs are briefly discussed.
