Thyroid disease can result in hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Both of these medical conditions are described and the symtoms, diagnosis and treatment for each are outlined. Hypothyroidism leads to weight gain, increased need for dietary fiber, and higher blood cholesterol levels. Hyperthyroidism leads to weight loss and increased need for calcium.
