A ten year experiment, 1966-1975, on the Agronomy South farm in Urbana provides data on the effect of herbicides and crop sequences on crop yields. an economic analysis indicates a rate of return on herbicide expenditures of about four dollars per dollar spent. a breakeven analysis shows that the probability of not covering costs decreases with the use of herbicides and by increased crop diversification.
