Dietary fat-induced postprandial lipemia: Effect on arterial oxygen saturation and plasma lactate, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels in subjects with angina pectoris

The consumption of cream fat and saffola oil in patients with arteriosclerotic coronary vascular disease and angina pectoris produced significant postprandial decreases in plasma lactate. It also caused significant increases in plasma triglyceride and cholesterol levels. The findings imply that at bedrest the lactate lowering effect of postprandial lipemia predominates over any hypoxic effect. The elevations may be due to the demand for lipoprotein membrane synthesis required to package the ingested fat. The subjects did manifest a moderate degree of fat intolerance, but the degree of lipemia attained may not have been high enough to elicit oxygen saturation changes.
