Comparative potential of enriched organic manures on the growth attributes of Brassica oleracea var. capitata

Enriched organic manures such as cow pat pit (HCPP), vermicompost and biodynamic compost were collected from Model Organic Farm, CSKHPKV Palampur. Among the eight samples of cow pat pit analyzed for the enumeration of microorganisms, HCPP8 contained highest bacterial load (5.40x10⁸ CFU/g) and HCPP4 contained maximum beneficial bacteria such as Azotobacter sp. (1.51x10⁷ CFU/g) while HCPP5 possessed maximum load of phosphate solubilizers. Out of fifteen samples of vermicompost, HVC6 contained highest bacterial load (1.61x10⁸ CFU/g) and HVC66 contained maximum Azotobacter sp. (1.51x10⁷ CFU/g) while HVC33 showed maximum load of phosphate solubilizers (1.165x 10⁷ CFU/g). A total of thirteen samples of biodynamic compost were analysed and HIM COMP-3 foun to possess highest bacterial load (6.0x10⁸ CFU/g) and BDH6 contained maximum beneficial bacteria such as Azotobacter sp. (8.6x10⁶ CFU/g) while HIM COMP-5 exhibited maximum load of phosphate solubilizers (8.6x 10⁶ CFU/g). Trials under hydroponics growth condition amended with different enriched organic manures revealed remarkable differences on root and shoot length of cabbage. HIM COMP-1 followed by HIM COMP-2 has influenced the cabbage root growth with the maximum number of roots 46 and 45 respectively. Whereas maximum increase in shoot length was shown by HCPP2 (6.1 cm) followed by HIM COMP-1 (4.0 cm) and maximum root length was exhibited by HVC77 (5.0 cm) followed by BDH4 (4.3 cm).
