The main purpose of the study was to develop and test a model survey of how the insurance industry reimburses for nutrition services in a particular state. The questionnaire used was expanded to assess the effect of licensure; Ohio RDs have been licensed since July 1987. Objectives included identifying who within the corporate structure made decisions about reimbursement for nutrition services, what medical conditions were reimbursable, and whether the location in which the services were provided was a factor. Finally, a short questionnaire was included for insurance companies that did not cover nutrition services.
