A study assessed fluid and energy intakes and plasma lipid levels in 45 neonates (weight range, 820-1550 g) randomly assigned to 1 of 3 fat emulsion infusion regimens. The results indicated that plasma lipid levels correlated best with an hourly lipid emulsion infusion rate whether the infusion was intermittent or continuous over 24 hours. The study results are statistically and graphically summarized and discussed.(wz)
