Nutritional standards provide individual and group feeding guidelines and help in assessing growth and development. Standards are based on nutrient intakes (Recommended Dietary Allowances) and food intakes (bioavailability and nutrient interactions). Nutritional assessment is commonly done by anthropometric measurements, body composition analysis, biochemical analyses, and clinical performance. Several measures of body size, growth rates, or caloric requirements are used as parameters for nutritional standards. (cj)
