Water quality, trace elements, and cardiovascular disease
1973
Studies on the relationships between cardiovascular disease, the composition of drinking water, and the geochemical environment are reviewed. Conclusions point to an association between high mortality rates and a general deficit of trace elements. The origin of dissolved minerals and the significance of some geological and geochemical characteristics of various countries and regions are explained. Areas of research by the WHO are described, including comparative analyses of autopsy tissue samples and epidemiological studies.
