The objective of this present work is to estimate the antibacterial activities of the total flavonoids extracted from Thonningia sanguinea (Vahl), on the in vitro growth of strains implied in the staphylococcosis. The antibacterial essays were realized on the methods of distribution in solid medium and dilution in liquid medium coupled with the spreading on Sabouraud agar medium. A reference strain (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923) and two hospital clinical strains (Staphylococcus aureus Meti-S and Staphylococcus aureus Meti-R) were used in this study. Among the three strains tested, Staphylococcus aureus Meti-S is the most sensitive with 50 mg/ml as values of Minimal Inhibitive Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Following this work, it appears that the total flavonoids of Thonningia sanguinea have bactericidal powers of all strains tested. This antibacterial activity observed could justify the use of the plant in the treatment of staphylococcosis in parts of Côte-d’Ivoire.
