Hypertension and obesity
1978
Tobian, Louis
Review of a number of studies regarding obesity and hypertension indicates that obesity brings on accelerated vascular disease because it leads to hypertension, which in turn brings on excessive vascular complications. The obese person with a normal blood pressure and cholesterol level appears not to have very much of an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. Therapy with dietary salt restriction and antihypertensive drugs is recommended for management of obese hypertensive patients. A large cuff is needed for blood pressure readings.
