Modifying employee behavior: making rewards pay off
1985
Feeney, E.J.
Modifying employee behavior has been found to increase productivity and to cut costs. Behavioral modification is based on 3 beliefs: people's performances are affected by the consequences of things they do; rewards change behavior by increasing a person's success; and punishment can produce adverse side effects. The 3 steps to applying behavioral modification are: careful measurement of worker output; creation of an effective feedback system; and the use of positive reinforcement when employee performance improves.(mp)
