Hunger and its resultant undernutrition have serious, complex effects. The members of The American Dietetic Association can help end hunger by increasing their individual and collective involvement. Dietitians must work for policy changes in private and governmental food assistance efforts, intensified education about hunger, and advocacy on the local, state, and national levels. It is the position of The American Dietetic Association that aggressive action is needed to bring an end to domestic hunger and to achieve food security for all citizens. The Association believes that immediate and long-range interventions are needed, including adequate program funding and technical assistance from private and governmental sources.
